      They're not ruining it. If your collecting and restoring that's one thing, but if your going to use it daily through growing season trying to maintain and keep an 80 year old engine design is another matter. They were Contental flat head four cylinders that put out 9 hp. So how much power and torque does an electric powered conversion put out? Plus no motor oil, gasoline, ignition system, carburetor, radiator, engine coolant, water pump, electric starter and alternator. So now you have a D.C. motor running on 12-24volt, with a reastat, virtually silent, no fuel, or exhaust, and flat heads aren't the cleanest burning engines. Personally I think it makes a lot of sense. I have a 77 Datsun 620 pickup with 360k miles that I've thought about giving to my granddaughter. But I've decided to convert it to electric, no immisions, or poor milage or trying to maintain a 45 year old engine. But she can drive a classic still.

    Super cool. I never saw this one before. The side mount keeps the pollen out of your DC motor! We have a pull-type crimper roller pulled by a conventional tractor which has the advantage of keeping my wheel weight in the bed tracks but I've had to start wearing a respirator while driving because of the cloud of pollen that comes off the rye. Great idea and fun to see a crimper pulled by an EV. I've always said it's a tool we could pull with a 4-wheeler or electric UTV or even an old Honda Civic if there was one handy. Maybe I'll try with our electric UTV next year.

    I get it being green and using electric motor to be eco friendly. Is there a way to boost the output on this. to get ya a little bit more power. I also have an Idea, What if you made a roof of solar panels that could provide shade in summer, shelter from rain, and to also charge the batteries, granted it wont add much life on the batteries, but if done right when you park tractor, it could keep it charged up and ready to go the next time. Also just wanna say great job on it. I love the old G;s

    Allis Chalmers actually made a fuel cell powered tractor in 1950s experimental model. Anyone with even the slightest knowledge of engineering understands that an electric motor puts out 100% torque at stall or zero rpm...blows away gas or diesel...that's why electric motors are often used on trains and ship propulsion systems with either nuclear or oil fired boilers to drive steam turbine gen sets like the GE LM 2500 etc. Don't listen to these negative comments by ignorant critics...New Holland just released their fuel cell electric tractor. I think someone should design a hybrid with an auxiliary engine to move machine also like Prius . Shalom

      Batteries don't last very long either, the most you can expect is 7 years, and the lead ore mining isn't cheap. I must have 24 to 26--12 volt batteries in equipment now. Keeping up with equipment batteries that are not used all winter is no fun. Shalom

    • @gordont29
      @gordont29 5 років тому

      100%torque at stall is also where the inehrit fault with electric motors because they are developing very little horse power. It is simple physics. While a diesel engine will develop torque rise as the engine speed is slowed. On the farm we had alternator motor and in constant load applications like running a grain dryer fan it was fine, but throw it on th eforage blower and you were forever unplugging the thing because as soon as there was a little extra and you started loosing RPM it was game over. If you check out autonomus traactor coorperation that would be the reason they use 400HP motors on some thign that only has a 200 hp engine.

    Hmm, didnt even go in the dirt, lets see you convert a John Deere 4900 series an up then go break ground for the yearly planting, electric does not produce anywhere near enough torque to pull a tiny 10 foot chisel or even a disk through settled ground..

    • @MrAstrojensen
      @MrAstrojensen 7 років тому

      Electric motors can have immense torque. It would be very easy to build a super strong tractor with electric motors that would outperform any diesel tractor with the same torque on the market. The problem is getting enough battery capacity to enable it to run for 8 - 10 hours without recharging. For a small tractor on a small farm, where you work only 2 - 4 hours on tiny fields between other chores, this is much less of a problem.

    • @timlowery7156
      @timlowery7156 3 роки тому

      It's obviously not a major tillage tractor so why compare apples and oranges? The description says very clearly he is marking rows for onion sets. Looks like a pretty serious tractor for it's intended purpose.

  • @alk315
    @alk315 10 років тому

    why convert it to rechargeable battery's? the tractor had the best 10 hp 4 cyl engine made! p.s. it takes more energy to recharge those battery's! as the fuel needed to make the electric power to recharge those battery's has to be pushed many miles threw cables, that reduces the total usable energy that would have been available if you just kept the nice clean burning fossel fuel 4 cyl engine that it came with! YOU so called clean energy nuts are head screwed idiots! NO SUCH THING AS ELECTRIC CARS ELECTRIC TRACTOR! IT IS A BATTERY POWERED TRACTOR!!! BATTERYS THAT HAVE TO BE RECHARGED BY BURNING OTHER FOSSEL FUELS LIKE COAL< GAS , WOOD , !!! IF YOU SOLAR CHARGED THOSE BATTERY'S YOU WOULD ONLY BE ABLE TO USE THAT ONCE GOOD TRACTOR FOR A FEW MINS A DAY AND YOUR GARDEN WOULD LOOK LIKE CRAP!!! YOU RUINED A GREAT TRACTOR BY MAKING IT A BATTERY POWERED TOY!! PS GASOLINE IS MADE FROM GREEN ENERGY STUPID! GOD MADE THE CRUDE OIL FROM PLANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW MUCH MORE GREEN CAN YOU GET THAN PLANTS TURNED INTO FUEL!!!!!

      idiot.. petrol and diesel at best are around 18-22% efficient.. meaning out of 100 liters of fuel you buy, around 20 liters are being converted into mechanical energy and the other 80 liters are being burt to generate waste heat or simply sprayed out of the exhaust unburnt... meanwhile an electric motors are 80%+ efficient.. who's the real idiot here
